Illustre Maestro:

No ho il bene di conoscerLa,

ma sapendo della Sua bontà, mi

permetto che Le scriva pregandoLa

di voler aggradire una copia

della partitura della mia «Passione»

che ho scritto lo scorso autunno.

Come vedrà non è una gran cosa,

ma spero che Lei la vorrà accettare

come un omaggio della mia ottima

e, mi permetta, della mia affezione

per Lei!

I do not have the privilege of knowing you,

but knowing of your goodness, I

permit myself to write to you, praying

that you would gladly accept a copy

of the score to my "Passione"

which I wrote last autumn.

As you will see it is no big deal,

but I hope that you will accept it

as an homage of my esteem

and — if I may — my affection

for you!...
